DAYTON, OH's Hidden Gem: The Oregon District

Read time  |  5 min

To Daytonians, the Oregon District is a loved hidden gem of the gem city. Though small, this afternoon trip is a must if you're near Dayton!

This area has some corky shops, dog salons, vintage stores, tattoo parlor, hat shop, a record store (um yes!), a gallery or two, off the wall bars, and some great restaurants with flare using only quality ingredients.

Browsing the aisles of records at Mega Music:)

I recommend a short walk down East 5th Street to window shop, stop at Mega Music's record store, then grab a glass of cider or pint of beer at Glasz Bleu Oven. This is one of the coolest hangouts I've been to! So much charm and rustic pieces mixed with a wide selection of drinks and Mediterranean flavor that truly transports you. You can choose from the bar area, main dining area, and even a mini-market to grab some pasta to cook at home later! We savored a crisp cider and glass of wine from their Craft & Cured bar along with a beautiful cheese board and bruschetta.

If you're wanting a rich meal without the price tag, next stop would be Corner Kitchen. Everything is made from scratch and with fresh ingredients. With a beautiful ambiance, quality food, all you need is good company to complete your meal!

Some other note worthy restaurants to try: Thai 9, Dublin Pub.

Though the Oregon District's downtown area is small, I recommend strolling the neighborhood areas during the fall. You'll get some beautiful color and fall foliage surrounding charming, historical homes! Walking these sleepy streets during the day, you'll be sure to hear the "crunch" of freshly fallen leaves that cover the ground.

Wanting to grab a local beer? Snag a pic at the famous "Dayton inspires" photo-op on the side of the Toxic Brew Company before heading inside this local fav!

If you're not ready to call it a day, stop by the quaint, corky movie theater, The Neon. They offer foreign flics and indie films along with some mainstream and documentaries.

BONUS:
For some other things to do outside of the Oregon District, but still in Dayton, I recommend Carillon Park! It's an amazing indoor and outdoor museum that shows the wonderful history of Dayton including the Wright Brothers' bicycle shop (the inventors of the airplane) They're from Dayton!

Any places I missed? Are there any other spots in Dayton you love?? Let me know below!

Lyndi
