A Summer Weekend in NYC
There's something different about experiencing a city with someone you love. When you travel alone it's exhilarating and empowering; you get that independence. You notice the details of the city. When you travel with someone you love, the city becomes the backdrop to your shared memories.
New York has become a great memory, because of who I shared this city with.
So begins my weekend in NYC.
-----
In the heat of July, New York is still so magical. Yes, it's packed, always moving, and you see lots of movie clichés. But it adds to the fun of it.
We started our Saturday exploring the famous Central Park. It is HUGE. You could honestly spend your whole day roaming around, sit by the ponds, have a picnic, rent a boat, or even take a tour by pedal taxi. We watched the turtles in the pond, listened to some performers, and strolled our way through the park. Such a calm escape from the hustle and bustle of New York.
You can take the girl out of France, but can't take the French out of this girl! We seemed to stumble upon the French-style market in NYC! It's indoors (and air conditioned!!) -- we found a cute crêperie and I got a berry and Nutella crêpe -- yum!
After our quick bite to eat, we decided with only a weekend trip (and lots to see) we would skip going to the Statue of Liberty, and instead took the ferry to see her from afar! The boat ride was pretty cheap, and the breeze was super refreshing due to the heat!
Next stop, Brooklyn bridge at sunset! We took the subway and had to hustle a little seeing it was a bit of a walk from the stop. BUT the sunset was so worth it!
We headed to Little Italy for dinner and ate pasta of course and gelato for dessert:)
We ended the evening by going to Time Square at midnight. You would have never known though, because the huge billboard screens light up the entire Time Square!! There was definitely commercialism bombarding you everywhere you looked, but a unique experience to say the least. You won't find this just anywhere in the world!
Sunday we took the train ride out to Coney Island to relax on the boardwalk and put our toes in the sand before our trip came to a close.
A weekend is definitely not enough time to take in all of New York, but at least we were able to take a bite out of the big apple;)
Until next time!
bisous,
Lyndi

Under the bridge the performers' voices and instruments filled the space! |
